Draft EIS for Toondah Harbour nearing completion

Walker Corporation is currently finalising one of the most comprehensive Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) ever undertaken in South East Queensland to put beyond doubt that Toondah Harbour will be a benchmark for sustainable economic development.

The EIS addresses all potential social, economic and environmental impacts of the project during its construction and operational phases.

As part of this rigorous process, environmental, construction and traffic impact management plans have been developed over the past 12 months by a leading team of independent experts working to guidelines issued by the Federal Government.

Specific EIS work has included:

  • geotechnical studies
  • dredging and marine engineering studies
  • coastal process modelling
  • water quality and marine ecology studies
  • flora and fauna studies, including migratory shorebirds and koalas
  • cultural heritage studies

We are pleased to advise that work on the draft EIS is on track and is expected to be released for public consultation in early 2021.

Community engagement has been a major component of planning for the new Toondah Harbour and this will continue with the community and other stakeholders providing input on the draft EIS next year.
